[Said Vaporeon is currently paddling in the large pond behind the Gym in Violet City. Saionji is sitting at the edge and pouting. Her Petilil is hopping up and down the road bobbing sweets and biscuits on its head from... god knows where to Saionji, but always ends up having to go back to town for more because it gets splashed in the face and dragged into the water by the Vaporeon frequently. Saionji doesn't seem to care much.

[The Vaporeon will feign innocence and shiver, whining about its trauma! But yeah it's a huge asshole. Not like Saionji doesn't know. She's kind of encouraging it.]

Naoryuu went missing, but I just thought he was playing around or in his Pokéball already. When I realized he was gone, I searched high and low for him! I couldn't trust to ask anyone, because even if they weren't against me, word could get out and any kidnapper could just cover their tracks more.

And then he came back evolved as a Vaporeon! I don't know why they'd just kidnap Pokémon to evolve them.

I don't know...when it comes to "kidnapping Pokémon", I'd immediately think Team Rocket...but them giving back the Pokémon is rather unheard of?

That's what I'd think, too... but, hold on, what if they stole Pokémon and gave a few back to throw the trail off themselves?

...But then, why'd they evolve them? They would need a Water Stone for Naoryuu, and that would be deliberate... uuurgh, this is so confusing! I wanna know!

Water stones are pretty expensive, too...well...have you asked Naoryuu to lead you to where she was taken, maybe?

No real answer. I mean, he probably knows what it looked like, but not where it was. They probably bagged him. I can imagine it, greasy pigs forcing him in a bag and carrying him away...

At least he wasn't hurt, although...forced evolution is a bit much. If he doesn't know, we should start by asking around if other Pokemon were taken from people.

Oh, yeah- I've heard of two Vulpixes stolen, and those evolve through stones, too... so it's a big bunch of forced evolutions!

Dunno why'd they want just the evolutions, though.

...Something like "studying evolution" could be an answer, couldn't it...?

But in that case, we should find out where they were stolen from, and when. If it's region-wide or centered in a certain area...that kind of thing.

Evolution changes Pokémon's forms and make them stronger... but I don't know what they'd study from that! Isn't it all just common knowledge?

And they're... evolving Pokémon through only items, too!

I don't know. Perhaps they want to find a new way of doing it or something...? I can't say more unless I knew more about what was going on.

As to evolving only through items...that much might not be surprising. After all, non-item evolutions would be the ones that required a lot of training or strong friendship, right...?

Yeah... but they're Team Rocket- or at least, they probably are, so they can just forcefully train them!

...Finding a new way of evolution? That sounds like a bad sci-fi movie. Tampering with nature and all that!

Tampering with nature...that's probably not too far off things Team Rocket has already done before. What matters to them is powerful Pokemon...so researching ways to make them stronger isn't unlikely, I don't think?

...That's why I suggested it. I think that's a good possibility. Although, even just guessing the motive...that doesn't find us the exact location of the culprit, unfortunately.

Uuuugh! This is so stupid! I don't even care why they did it anymore, I just want to find whoever did it!

I know all the Pokémon kidnapped were evolved through items. Not just evolutionary stones. And while mine was stolen here, I know someone else- if they're not lying- had theirs stolen in Kanto! So it's a big operation.
