[Who's the most terrible trainer in the world? Saionji Hiyoko, that's who. In any case, she's staring at the video screen, a Vaporeon sitting on her lap. And both of them looked pissed as hell.

Hey, it's not like Saionji didn't even notice Naoryuu was gone!... Okay, yeah, she didn't. But that doesn't change the situation right now.]

When I find out who took my Eevee and forcibly evolved him into a Vaporeon when I wanted an Umbreon, I'll have you publicly stoned! Since execution isn't an option here, I'll have to do with torture. You won't get away with this, slimy pig!

ACTION

[Said Vaporeon is currently paddling in the large pond behind the Gym in Violet City. Saionji is sitting at the edge and pouting. Her Petilil is hopping up and down the road bobbing sweets and biscuits on its head from... god knows where to Saionji, but always ends up having to go back to town for more because it gets splashed in the face and dragged into the water by the Vaporeon frequently. Saionji doesn't seem to care much.

Yeah, this is a game, isn't it? 'Good guys always win' thing. Too bad good and bad is so loosely defined in real life by idiots! But I guess, if there's any merit a children game has, it's a fixed moral system. I don't always agree with it, but it's something most humans can't possess.

I think a lot of people would agree that taking someone's pokemon is wrong.

I mean, taking it for a while just to see the look on their faces is fun. But stealing is just lame.

[Naoryuu just looks even more upset, and flops around in the water angrily. I wanted to be an Umbreon! My trainer said Vaporeons don't look ugly, but just don't fit her.]

But some people just have no sense of humor! Take everything seriously, and the only joke will be you. [Funny, because Saionji takes a lot of things seriously.]

[This is a problem that's pretty unique to Eevees but Susie will try to Team Mom her way through this. It's not your fault you evolved. I'm sure she understands that.]

W-well yeah, but it's still not nice to do things that'll make people cry.

[Shaun's entire life for the past few years (this past year in Johto the exception) has been nothing but tears. He could go the rest of his life without seeing anyone else cry and there would still be too many tears in his life.]

How would you like it if someone pretended to take something of yours and you didn't know they were joking?

[...Saionji cries a lot, and like to pretend it's all fake, something that most would discover if they actually bear talking to her. So, if there's anything she can pick up on, being raised in a household of feuds and jealousy, it's that Shaun probably doesn't like what she's saying.]

...I guess so. But it could still be funny afterwards. [She's really trying to take a page out of her Big Sis' book, but it's not coming out too well. Okay, let's pull a bullshit topic change instead, not like kids can tell any better.] Naoryuu was evolved into a Vaporeon, though! Why not a Flareon, or Leafeon, or Glaceon? Or the Umbreon I wanted? They all have grace, or have traits of nature clear within them... but Vaporeon is a big, blatant catfish.

[She does, but that doesn't change anything. And that's the cryptic answer Naoryuu tries to pass off before diving into the water and dissolving- he's still listening, though.]

Umbreon has to evolve through friendship, so he couldn't become an Umbreon without you there.

I'm really sorry he didn't get to evolve into what you wanted.

[He does kind of smile at the catfish comment though because WELL IF EEVEE IS CATLIKE AND NOW IT IS PART FISH...]

But I think Vaporeon looks really neat. Like a mermaid! Maybe he's not as graceful on land, but look- he can totally dissolve into the water when he's swimming! That's pretty cool and graceful, right?

[Susie's also listening to what the trainers are saying, and she can only imagine how the younger water-type is hurt over something he couldn't control.]

True... but water isn't really a thing during indoor dancing. [Did she mention she wanted an Umbreon for dancing? Well...] Unless I perform outside, but then I'll look like a starving street busker. I would trade Naoryuu away, but he was a gift from Big Bro Oowada.

[Yeah, Naoryuu definitely heard that. brb sinking lower]

[Shaun's quiet and thoughtful for a minute, and he glances at the pond and meets Susie's eyes, noticing that she's giving him a little bit of a stink eye. It's then that he realizes that Naoryuu can hear everything they're saying, and he feels like a poopheel even though he hasn't even been saying anything.

But then he gets an idea.]

Let's go to Ecruteak!

I've read about a dance theatre they've got there where all the dancers have one of the evolutions of Eevee that they dance with, including Vaporeon! Maybe you can get advice or ideas from them?

[Because even SHSLs don't know everything, right?]

[She heard of the dance theatre, but not the whole 'Eeveelutions' thing. If anything, Saionji's eyes light up almost instantly.]

Really? Yay! Let's go to Ecruteak soon! Then, Naoryuu can still dance, teehee... I hope it's not just branding, though, that would be lame.

[Naoryuu's head pokes out the water at that.]

[Well Shaun's mostly heard of it in the context of the battle challenge, so that's how he knows what kind of pokemon they use.

Yeah! We can ask Miss Nanami if we can go there next! And anyway I know that if you work hard on training him, you'll find a way to dance together! Even if it's not what you wanted, I know Naoryuu will still try his best to make you happy.

[He looks over at the Vaporeon, who's peeking out of the water at them now, with a smile.]

[Yes! Happy! Naoryuu gets out of the water and yips a happy 'Vapor!' at Saionji's feet.] Well, I'm pretty happy with the fact you're much less of a weakling than someone elses' Pokémon, anyway. Thanks to my teachings, of course, teehee!

I do want to challenge the other Gyms, though... but Ecruteak City has a Gym, too, so we'll get to it soon! [NEED TO GET GYMS FIRST BECAUSE CHALLENGES]

We don't have to do the gyms in order, either, so we can go to Ecruteak next and then back to Goldenrod or whatever! I want to challenge the Ecruteak Gym, too, I haven't been there yet!

[Susie slides out of the water and stands up, looking pleased with these events as well.]
