There's some little cakes by nearly the same name, like some poor man's version of Eclairs. They're stuffed with cream, just in a spiral instead of bloating the pastry.

Anyway, what knowledge there is of the legendaries likens them to gods. Creation myths, so on and given the place, it's probably true in some sense.

They're probably strong enough to ignore the use of prophets, anyway. Such a roundabout method by other deities always stumped me. Just go down to Earth and set a few cities on fire, there you have it!

They might have prophets, might not. There's so little information that they could have their followers stand on one leg with their left shoe gone and we'd never know. Setting cities on fire seems a bit counter productive. More like asking for people to erase all knowledge of the god.

Now back on to the god stuff. Everyone always puts this stuff in vague terms like it's actually supposed to mean anything. A god that wrecks things and that's it? Sounds more like the weather.
It's not like people don't gather together and rebuild after that. It's more likely they'd look up and be irritated, then move the hell on. Because not everyone is obsessed with might.
And there needs to be context. How big a city are we talking here? Like a tiny hovel in the middle of nowhere? Or closer to sprawling all over New york? Without the sense of scale no one is going to take it seriously.

...[Okay back to gods.] Well, I guess there are still a healthy amount of humans who are more capable than being mere slaves. But really, everything just links back to destructive power! Whether it be from working behind the scenes or physical strength- it doesn't matter who you are and what you do, people won't dare mess with you. Doesn't need to be violent, either.
Most 'friendships' are just a bunch of weakling plotting together, anyway, trying to overthrow those rightfully above them... there's nothing more disgraceful than playing dirty and hurting those more talented and strong!
Humanity has all but gone soft. Do you really believe they could rebuild? At most, the stronger ones could survive.

So let's backtrack a bit here. You're saying humans are weak and yet the talented ones should survive. What about a godlike being that ports around and randomly murders people talented people included. In fact, it takes those out first.

Murdering is disgusting and never justified, but sometimes it's just the only way to hammer it in to those denser pigs! Too bad, murder is abused by the underlings, too. Gods probably don't need to resort to such a method, but it's the most effective.
Humanity is split into two halves- one contains those of noble origin, such as myself; the other are made of people who may only serve as slaves to the separate half. The majority of humanity falls into the latter! But while the former is talented and strong enough to advance the world forward, humans as a whole are probably comparatively weak when faced up with God.
