[When the video switches on, she's holding a book- on Pokémon, and sitting in the corner of the Dangan House. There's a paper in her hands, and if you squint, you can make out frantic scrawling in Japanese all over the other side of it, written with a heavy hand- there's imprints on the paper.

Her Mawile is sleeping on the beanbag next to her, and a Petilil carries more books to her obediently. When Saionji takes them, said Petilil goes to bother Ayani instead.] You know... I've been thinking, and... it's so stupidly pitiful.

[A pause. She doesn't elaborate.] ...And what's a legendary Pokémon?

This is a gaming question, her time has come. ]

In the game, it's a Pokémon that there is only one of...and a master ball is useful in catching them, since that one has the best capture rate. There's normally stories about them in the lore, too, I think.

The ones from the game are...Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Mew, and Mewtwo. But, there are ones here, too. ...I think.

Sounds good! Where do you get Master Balls?

[It's a bit awkward since they're both in the same house but who cares] I found a story about 'Ho-oh'... which, I'm gonna assume, like its real-life counterpart, is the ruler of all birds or something. Do you know anything about it? [Her memory of folklore and mythological creatures remain steadfast.]

...I'm not sure in this place. In the game, you talk to the president of Silph Co. after you defeat the leader of Team Rocket, though...

[ And, actually, she has spent the last month or so reading up on all these new Pokémon, as it happens.

Ho-oh seems to be connected to "Lugia" in terms of the mythology here...those two are native to Johto, or so I hear. There's a legend concerning both of them, actually: Two towers...Two Pokémon...But when one burned down, both Pokémon flew away, never to return.

I believe you can still visit that burned tower in this place. That should be Ecruteak...? I'd like to go there sometime.

Huuuh... it says here Ho-oh was in one of the towers there.

[She's just gonna- ignore the whole Silph Co. idea.] This is all something like a game, so, are there scores? After a while, can you hit achievements, like finding Legendary Pokémon- or getting slaves!

...I wanna go to Ecruteak. [There it is.] But Ayani isn't anywhere as strong as she should be to get through there in one piece! This is so agonizing!

You agree with me too about the other thing, right? It's so stupidly pitiful!

I don't know if that's how it works or not...either way, I'll be going towards Violet soon, for the first gym, and then on from there. If you want to come along, you're more than welcome, Saionji-san.

[ She wants to start collecting her badges, basically. ]

The petilil...? I think it's cute, really. It's true grass-types are sometimes thought of as weaker...but against the right opponent, that's not the case.

[She weighs her options. Saionji has been quite wary of this girl for some time- there's no way there wasn't something just slightly off with her. She's a performer. She knows when someone is putting up an act- even if they're not attempting to.

But right now... death isn't really a conclusion to a bad move. Consequences are... less severe here. So, perhaps, for her own good and just a tiny desire to know Nanami a biiit better...] Violet...? Sure, I'll be so kind as to lend you my company for that venture. Teehee!

Oh, this is Nako. She just hatched, so I can't say much. She does listen well, though; with the proper care and attention, she'll make a great slave! [Still haven't dropped that.] That's not what I mean by 'stupidly pitiful', though.

It's soooooo obvious that the Pokémon here are Japanese legends and youkai brought to full life and embraced by culture! And yet, the people here take the time out of their day to suck up to Western ideas and foreigners, just like back home!

It's just dumb! Of all things to share with our home world, it has to be that? This place is strong, it doesn't need to be nice to other regions!

...Ah...I suppose some of them might be based on things like that, but mostly they ought to be based on animals and bugs and such. The creator of the game was really interested in things like that as a child, you know?

[ She obviously doesn't know. ]

Pokemon was a game released in Japan, so...

True, true... but that just makes it all the more painful! This place is perfect for Japan. Why do other people have go and stink it all up?

This place is nice and all, and I'm not saying that's bad- but people from all kinds of worlds are coming! What about serial killers, cannibals, and big, old perverts?! They'll probably be welcomed here too! We're just sitting ducks!

Plus, shouldn't the foreigners who arrive here conform to this place instead of trying to bring in their own ideas? I myself am trying to question why it's such a weird mix of Western-Eastern in the first place, so it doesn't really apply to me.

I don't think we have to worry too much...at least, no one is able to die here...or so it seems...

[ And they haven't had any trouble like that for however many years this place has had other worlders in it, so... ]

I think the different ideas are a little interesting. It's a bit like a game...learning about where everyone is from.

...I'm not saying new ideas are bad, but sometimes it's for the best they just stay away. Like this city! It's noisy, and crowded, and I don't like it. I'd much rather go somewhere else will less smelly tourists.

In that case, one of the smaller towns is probably better...those are usually the starting towns. As you go further in, things tend to get bigger, so going more towards the start would probably be best...

Okay then! Ecruteak sounds great, though... I can't wait to go there! [Grin.] With the towers, history, culture...

So how are 'Gym Leader' battles?

Hm...well, you have to beat the lower-level trainers in their gyms before they'll accept your match...but then it's basically like any boss battle. Their Pokemon are a bit higher leveled than the other trainers in the gym and area, and they might have special moves sometimes...which the leader might give you a TM for after the battle, if you win.

Huuuh... why are they stupid enough to stick to the same type, though? That makes them soooo much easier to beat!

[SERIOUSLY. SHE NEVER GOT IT. Maybe it's tradition...? She can accept that. But it's a fucking stupid tradition. Like memorizing movements for tea ceremonies, holy shit, those are boring. Not like she'll say that out loud.]

I think it's just traditional...

Flying. So...electric types and that sort of thing should make it easier...

From what I've been able to learn, sometimes when people go home their Pokémon go to other people here...so it probably had an original trainer who went home?
