which is dumb to follow but for the sake of argument
so B gets into trouble and by A's point of view they've done nothing but horrible things to them
and A still helps B out of trouble without any way of using the situation to make them 'owe one' or blackmail

How is A imprisoning themselves? There are some kinds of people that will just help someone else and think "Okay that's it. It doesn't mean anything."

What happened back in your home that made you think like that?

It's something that's a bit hard to believe... Hopefully you won't think I'm insane. Someone else has already commented on that.
Basically, Ib and I became trapped in a frightening place. For some reason, it was because of an artist whose creations had come to life. Everything seemed to want to kill us right away except for a young girl we ran into. Her name was Mary.
However... It turned out that Mary was just like all those pieces of art. She had been created by that artist as well. When Ib and I were separated and Mary was with Ib, she seemed to snap and cornered Ib. I barely made it in time to stop her... Even now, thinking about it, I get scared about what might have happened if I'd been a moment too late.
After that, the two of us did our best to avoid her, but she trapped us in another part of that place. Yet we managed to find her original painting and she became livid- or maybe she was just scared. She chased us, and the only thing we could do was set that painting on fire.
That killed her.
But... We found her diary, and a book on how to make friends. In the end, she only wanted to escape that world as well. All her life, she'd been raised around that frightening creatures with no real idea of what was good or what was bad. It was something she had no choice or control over. I feel sad for her.
So if she ever appeared here and she was in trouble, I would help her if I could.
You know, Saionji, you're the first person I've told the whole story to. I've only told other people about the other world we were trapped in. Never anything about Mary.

Saionji's completely misjudged Ib's world. She seemed just like a quiet little, rather spoiled, girl- that's all. But here she was, trusting a man she's barely met or talked to face-to-face because of the little girl, and he's trusting her back with a story that may very well incriminate the both of them if it's twisted just the right way.

That isn't the weirdest thing that's happened, anyway! I got trapped on an island and a bear told everyone to kill each other to get out. [When did she get so casual about mentioning that, too? Maybe because it's been half a year, and- the events are almost like a bad dream.

Well, I wouldn't want people to use something like that against Ib. So it's mostly because of her I even trusted you in the first place, alright? [TSUNS FOREVER] And a lot of people seem to come from 'awful places' by my society's definition.

I'll do my best to find konpeito, but I can definitely find a good wig! I promise I won't go for anything cheaply made. They're positively dreadful.

but thanks! i've seen many stage wigs before, for kabuki dance and some shin buyo performances... so many of them are matted and full of creepy-crawlies, you'd think they fished them out of the trash!

They really are scum of the earth then, robbing a girl of some of her hair. Well, if you'd ever like, maybe I can help fix your hair into something you like if there are times you don't want to wear the wig. Short hair isn't for everyone but there are ways to make it bearable until it grows back.
