let's say A is anyone and B is someone who treats A terribly by society's standards

which is dumb to follow but for the sake of argument

so B gets into trouble and by A's point of view they've done nothing but horrible things to them

and A still helps B out of trouble without any way of using the situation to make them 'owe one' or blackmail

what exactly could A be thinking?

[...Saionji is not very good at all this anonymous business.

What's up with all this, though?]

That there's a moral high ground they should walk.

Or that they hope bee will change their ways after the experience.

Or that they pity bee and have never been so wounded by their acts to take them to heart.

Or they're simply too kind for their own good.

Or they've been fooled into believing they should tolerate the treatment.

I hold to eye for an eye myself but I've known people who would think all those things.

There are a few reasons. It all depends on what kind of "anyone" A is.

If I were A... Maybe it's because no matter how horrible someone is, sometimes there's kinds of trouble that no one should have to deal with. Maybe I just want to be the better person.

...If B were someone in particular I'm thinking of, I'd help her out because I understand that despite what happened, the way she became was something out of her control. She was only doing things by what she knew.

That A is the better person, and therefore superior to B.

Even if they never overtly use it against B, A will always have the personal satisfaction of knowing how pitiful B is by comparison.

What sort of person feels it necessary to mistreat others for personal satisfaction?

If you're after specifics why not just ask them.

In other words, you think that so long as you're on the "winning" side, you ought to be invincible — and therefore, those who aren't the winners are yours to do with as you will.

If that's how B thinks, then it's hardly a stretch to think that A might've enjoyed seeing them in need of help.

Quite possibly A felt a sort of karmic satisfaction to it — that the once-mighty B had at last gotten what was coming to them.

Sometimes that's just the way things are! Even if B can't change, I still wouldn't want her to suffer. I'm not that cruel a person.

How is A imprisoning themselves? There are some kinds of people that will just help someone else and think "Okay that's it. It doesn't mean anything."

But if A isn't a bleeding heart, then are they the exact opposite or are they just average?

Bullshit it is. [kimblee you ain't, anon.]

Anyways there's also selfish reasons that don't look to extort something from bee. I've had to go to lengths to save the life of someone who belittled and even tried to kill me and it certainly wasn't my idea but I won't say it didn't satisfy me at least a bit to hold such power over him. It revolts me a little but I won't deny it.

Indirect satisfaction. B's place in the favored majority wasn't nearly so secure as B thought it was; that sort of arrogance is what inspired the phrase, "pride goes before a fall."

A had the pleasure of watching B fall, even if A wasn't the one who caused it themselves. One doesn't have to orchestrate another person's misfortune in order to derive satisfaction from it.

Well it doesn't sound like you can get rid of anyone here completely so that's probably one factor if they aren't a bleeding heart.

People are complicated like that.

A doesn't like suffering. Doesn't matter who.
